Consumers’ love affair with mobile technology has resulted in the phenomenal growth of apps – mobile applications that allow consumers to use their smartphones and tablet devices for an assortment of productive, fun and sometimes bizarre purposes.

Apps for job seekers have grown up alongside the rest of the app marketplace. Now, job seekers have access to hundreds (if not thousands) of free apps designed to make their job search just a little bit easier.

But with so many apps to choose from, it can be difficult to separate the truly useful downloads from the rest of the field. So we’ve compiled a list of what we think are some of the best free apps for job seekers.

  1. Job Search by Indeed.com

The major online job boards (e.g. CareerBuilder, Monster) all offer high quality apps that have been designed for multiple mobile platforms. But one of the things we like about Indeed’s Job Search app is that it aggregates listings from search engines and job boards into a single location on your mobile device.

  2. LinkedIn Mobile

Mobile and social media go hand in hand, so it’s no surprise that Facebook, Twitter and most other social media websites offer solid apps. But LinkedIn’s value as a networking tool makes it a must-have free app download for today’s job seekers.

  3. Monster.com Interviews

Monster.com’s Interviews app is a highly effective tool for mobile users who are preparing for their next big job interview. The app offers a step-by-step guide that with advice and coaching for every stage of the interview process – including stress relievers to help you keep stay cool and collected when it really matters.

  4. SnapDat

SnapDat is a highly rated mobile contact sharing app that lets job seekers share digital business cards with prospective employers and key networking contacts. The app makes it easy for users to design an attractive business card and transmit it to other SnapDat users via the application or to non-SnapDat users as a vCard – everything you need to put your best foot forward with networking targets.

  5. JobCompass

JobCompass combines the GPS capabilities of today’s smartphones with a job search board to create a location-based job search tool. Sound cool? It is – in addition to providing information about open positions within an assigned radius of your current position, JobCompass lets you apply for the position straight from your mobile device.
